Whisk and Reward at Cupcake Camp 2013

My sister discovered Cupcake Camp last year, and we ambitiously baked, decorated, and shared 213 mini cupcakes at Somerville's Arts of the Armory.

This year it was held at in Cambridge. Due to a new admission policy--a punch card for 8 cupcakes--4 from amateurs and 4 from professional bakers--we decided to bake full-size cupcakes this year. (Patrons were entitled to one full-size or two minis per punch.)

Our growing business, better known as Whisk and Reward, looked much fancier this year than last.

Drum roll please...

The first cupcake to "sell out"--yes we ran out of all of them in a little more than an hour--was "Beach Day." It was a moist white cupcake infused with sea salt caramel. Teddy Grahams were swimming in the water, sunbathing under an umbrella, or playing in a candy peach ring. (These were quite popular with the kids.)

The next ones to sell out were "Whatcha Bacon?" The recipe was one I had discovered on Pinterest for a gender reveal order I had the following week. We took it as an opportunity to test it out. Success! They were rich chocolate cupcakes topped with creamy peanut butter frosting and garnished with candied bacon.

And the final ones to sell out, but the most flavorful were "Nana's Snickerdoodle." The frosting was exceptionally creamy and not entirely hardened. It began to melt in the sun, and in turn, did not look quite as glamorous as the others. They were snickerdoodle cupcakes with cinnamon buttercream and crowned with a cinnamon and sugar rim. Yum!

On the drive back home, we were already brainstorming
next year's flavors and themes!
